Expired Film Day 2016 results: 2005 Kodak Portra 160VC

Lamplighter Motel, Longmont
The Lamplighter Motel on Main Street in Longmont, Colo., exudes 1960s stereotypes with rough stone walls, wood panels, avocado greens and more. (Daniel J. Schneider)

Only expired 16 years and known to have been stored well, my expectations were high for this roll of Kodak Portra 160VC.

While I took a pile of older cameras and films with me for Expired Film Day, and even brought some pretty old film for the Pentax 6×7, I also brought a couple of things I hoped to have good results from — this Portra and the Efke R100.

I rated the film at ASA 100 — I didn’t think much compensation would be required, but Portra is generally happiest when it’s over-exposed a little bit — and shot it during the first half of my day’s excursion. It preceded the roll of Vericolor III VPS. The exposures you see here were all made in Longmont, Colo., except for the truck — which is just outside the city.

Piano keys fence
Who could say no to a fence painted to resemble a piano keyboard? I had to stop for a closer look. (Daniel J. Schneider)

I wish I had much more to say about this particular film, but I don’t. It was developed normally by a lab, and the results are really quite good. Portra rarely disappoints.
